If you have obtained Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK, the next step in-order to become a British Citizen would be to apply for British citizenship / naturalisation. This will make you free from any immigration applications and it will also allow you to apply for a British passport.
Naturalisation is the process where you apply to become a citizen of the UK. Certain countries allow you to become a UK citizen and also retain citizenship there in other words dual- citizenship. Some countries do not allow this.
Once you have completed your application, you will be invited to complete a biometrics appointment. The biometrics appointment is a 15-minute appointment which takes place with TLS Contact, they are commercial partner of the Home Office who carry out the biometrics appointments in the UK.
The biometrics appointments are designed to take the applicant’s fingerprints and photograph and do not consist of any interviews. If you would like to submit your supporting documents to the home office at your biometrics appointment, this could also be done at an additional cost.
You can apply for British Citizenship if you:
are 18 years of age or older
are of good character
satisfy the residency requirements
intend to continue living in the UK
have a good knowledge of English and life in the UK
Steps to apply for British Citizenship
We will then provide you with a personalised documents checklist, which will then enable you to gather the required supporting documentation, for your naturalisation application.
Once you have returned the supporting documentation, we will then review them and provide you with some feedback.
Whilst you are working on the feedback we have provided; we will complete a first draft of your British Citizenship application and our representation letter.
As per our feedback, once you have provided any additional documentation, we will then send you the draft British Citizenship application to review. Once you are happy, you application can be submitted.
